Katt Williams Buys Former Military Base to Launch Movie Studio

Emmy Award-winning comedian Katt Williams is venturing into the world of film production with an ambitious plan to transform a former military base in Alabama into a state-of-the-art movie studio.

While details about the exact location and purchase price remain under wraps, speculation points to the Cold War-era barracks at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama, listed for sale at $1.5 million.

Amy Sisoyev, the comedian’s publicist, confirmed the acquisition but declined to share specifics, saying only, “I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama.”

The property, which Williams has fittingly named “Starships,” is said to feature an array of structures and amenities that make it ideal for large-scale film production. Reports indicate it includes 30 concrete buildings offering three million square feet of indoor space, 10 barracks with 20 rooms each, two expansive gymnasiums, and over 90 acres of flat land. These resources provide the foundation for Williams’ vision of creating a vibrant hub for filmmaking and entertainment in the South.

In a recent interview with GQ, Williams shared the motivation behind this bold move. “It’s just not fair to put all that pressure on Tyler Perry. He can only do so much,” he remarked, referencing the importance of diversifying the entertainment landscape and expanding opportunities for creatives. With his new studio, Williams aims to support emerging talent and provide a platform for underrepresented voices in Hollywood.

This move positions Williams among a growing number of entertainers, including Donald Glover, 50 Cent, and Tyler Perry, who are taking ownership of production spaces to amplify their creative visions.

His investment in a movie studio could have significant ripple effects, not only for the local economy but also for the broader film industry. By establishing a major production facility in Alabama, Williams has the potential to create jobs, attract filmmakers and artists, and position the region as a burgeoning hub for the entertainment industry.

As the project unfolds, excitement is building around the possibilities of what Williams might achieve with his new studio. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to diversifying Hollywood’s storytelling underscore the significance of this venture.

For Katt Williams, this move is more than just an investment—it is a statement about the power of ownership and representation in entertainment.
